When Life Hangs on a Balance: Surviving Cancer

“I want life, more life and more life”.

I watched my friend go through the devastation, battles,
tests, chemotherapy and of course lots of prayers too. It wasn’t long she became distant and resolved to
fate that maybe this was it for her.
Every time she wanted to call it quit, she will look at the family and friends that surrounded her. She considered her assignment in reaching lives for Jesus as incomplete.
She found hope again wanting to live not for anything else but…
for these people,
for her assignment,
for her God.
I love how God steps in when hopelessness glares. When we think it is over, God says No, your story has just begun!
On and on living everyday became a miracle. Until
that glorious day she told me, ‘it is gone, they couldn’t find anything’.
I knew this was the miracle we all were waiting to hear. She went through it,
fought it and now she is a breast cancer survivor. I am grateful to God for her
life, Alleluia.
That long season when her life hung on the balance, all she chose to see was Hope upon hope.

Living everyday is a miracle. We don’t need to be reminded that
our frame is fragile and the Lord keeps us through.
When I read Heather Von St. James survival story, all
the thoughts and memories of my friend flooded my heart. I readily said, “why
not” to joining her campaign.
Heather suffered from a rare form of cancer called
Mesothelioma and was given 15 months to live but God stepped in.
Her hope and trust in
God couldn’t go without notice. Her family stood by her while she struggled to hold it together for her new baby.

The spirit of a man will sustain his
infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear? Proverbs 18:14

You can read her story >>here<<

The Lord Jesus granted her victory and now she is
10 years free! Amen.

Cancer did not just bring a
survivor out of her it made her become a stronger person.
She heads up
awareness campaigns to inform the public about this rare disease, Mesothelioma.

Isn’t she an amazing person? I love her heart.

Do you know it affects about 3000 people every
year in the US alone?
Do you know it is an asbestos-related disease?
Please visit the
Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance for more information about mesothelioma.

We are a few days away from the 29th of
February marked as “Rare Disease day”. This post is part of the “Rare Disease
Day” specifically creating awareness for Mesothelioma.
Now your turn, how can you be of help? You can start by sharing
this post or Heather’s
story
on your social media channels. It would go a very long way.
One last thing friends, take a moment to pray for
someone who is suffering in sickness or affliction especially cancer. Ask the
Lord to grant them victory in their situation according to His Will.

Comment Prompt: Did you share this post? Do you someone who has cancer and survived it? Please share your experience in the comments and encourage someone going through it.

  • WOW, what a beautiful testimony. Her attitude to not give up because there were so many people who needed her and others she needed to share Jesus with. Don't quit as long as there is breath. Thank you for sharing this story with us here at Tell me a Story.

  • My grandpa passed away from mesothelioma back in the early 80s. I'm so glad that Heather made it through and is bringing awareness to the world about this cancer.

  • My husband had thyroid cancer a couple of years ago, and while it's not something I would've ever chosen, God used that experience powerfully in our lives and in our family. Thank you for sharing this inspiring story of God's grace! May she continue in health and wholeness.
