Taking Out Dirt in the Secret Place of Your Heart

Taking Out Dirt in the Secret Place of Your Heart

I cleaned and scrubbed as it is my manner on most
weekends but this weekend was by far different. There were hidden crevices and corners
that I would normally overlook but on that day, I chose to go beyond my normal
routine.
As I did the windowpanes, it had accumulated dusts over
the long dusty weather and needs a little more cleansing.

Cleaning that day brought thoughts that made me reflect on life. It wasn’t long before I realised that there are hidden
areas of my life that need cleansing too.

There are nooks and crannies we overlook. Ignoring these secret places, will make the dirt blow
up in our faces.
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the
hidden part
thou shalt make
me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I
shall be whiter than snow. Psalm 51:6-7
The Lord requires that if we must draw near, then let’s get rid of those little dirt in our lives. We can’t bribe our way through with offerings and sacrifices.
He is not desirous of your sacrifice; what He
wants is your clean hands and a pure heart.
Further Reading: Psalm 51:16-17

Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall
stand in his holy place?
He that hath clean hands, and a pure
heart
; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He
shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his
salvation. This is the
generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face
, O Jacob. Selah.
Psalm 24:3 -6
Did you see that? This is the generation of them that seek Him…
Please join me and make this prayer: Lord, cleanse my life grant that my heart
be pure before thee oh Lord. Nothing else matters than to dwell in your presence, let your mercy flood over my soul. Make
my hands clean and rid me of strange thoughts and desires that are contrary to your Word in Jesus name. Amen
Had David paid attention to his indiscretion
perhaps Bathsheba would not have been an issue. But he paid dearly for his
carelessness.

Far too long, we dance around the corridors
of sin and don’t expect to get burnt.
Hidden dirt, like weights, draws us back!
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud
of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily
beset us, and let us run with
patience the race that is set before us,
Hebrews 12:1
You may not recognize them easily but they are there
and need to be flushed out.
Today, let us look deep into areas we rarely speak
about.
Is there un-forgiveness tucked away somewhere?
Is there lust, pride, anger, gluttony hanging
around the corners of your heart?
Examine yourself and see (2 Corinthians 13:5).
This is an invitation for us to be hushed and allow
the Lord work in our hearts.
It is an opportunity to invite the Holy Spirit in these secret places of our heart. When we do, He works thorough and through our hearts thus refining us.
Do you accept this special invitation?

  • Ifeoma,
I was just reading about seeking quiet. My soul has been craving quiet. It's in the quiet we can offer our hearts for cleaning. It is so difficult to hear the Lord when we are rushing around surrounded by the loud of the world! Thank you for this beautiful post, friend!
    Blessings and smiles,
    Lori

    Friend,
You have such a sweet way of reminding us of the important things, the hard things, with grace and love. I love the prayer you shared… thank you!

May we let Him cleanse and purify every hidden part of our heart. Psalm 51.
    Blessings!

  • Great truth in your words. Just the other day God showed me some dirt I was missing in my heart. He is faithful to shine the light in our heart by the power of the HOly Spirit.

  • Oh yes, Thank you for sharing your awesome post with us here at “Tell Me a Story.” http://letmetelluastory.blogspot.com/

  • Very convicting and powerful. Thanks for sharing!

  • This is so powerful. We do not realize how all that dirt in our heart can accumulate and cause big issues. Thank you for sharing at Faith Filled Parenting.

  • Dear Ifeoma, Thanking you for your post and how wonderful it is to point out that we need to look at getting rid of the cobwebs like unforgiveness. I would love you to visit my blog http://www.diana2rockwell.com/at-the-end-of-the-rope/ Blessings Diana

This is the best kind of spring cleaning! To create in us a clean heart 🙂 Thank you for sharing with us on the Art of Home-Making Mondays at Strangers & Pilgrims on Earth!

  • As usual you bring home such an important message. I love the analogy, although I need to pay more attention to my cracks and crannies. 🙂 Thanks for sharing on the #LMMLinkup.

  • Hi, Ifeoma. 🙂 I'm stopping by from Wedded Wednesdays link-up. This is such a good reminder that we can easily overlook sin!

  • So true, we need to regularly search our hearts for any sin that has gone unnoticed. It will be more work later on, just like cleaning our homes. Great analogy, friend!

  • So true, Ifeoma! I've had a dream where I live in a house with lots of locked doors. I gradually realized God was telling me of all the places I kept closed off to Him. There is so much freedom in flinging wide the doors and letting Him clean the crevices. Beautiful word my friend!

  • Enjoyed you post today. I especially liked your truth about us dancing around our sin. So true! Thanks for sharing truth! Visiting today from Worshipful Wednesday!

  • Those dirty places can quickly sneak up on us if we are not careful to keep them clean. Thanks for this reminder. His grace is so good to us that He invites us in for Him to wash us clean again. Thank you for sharing with us. (Stopping by from Holley's place)

  • This is another post that makes us realize that God is the one who can clean us. No matter how many books we read in order to be corrected, God is still the best source for our perfection! Keep the faith friend!

  • We do tend to hide the things we don't want the world to see. But God searches the heart and if we are honest we can ask Him to remove those things that we hold so dear, because He knows it is best if they be gone. Thanks for your open heart.

  • Such a needed reminder, Ifeoma. I read recently that sin can be defined as something that separates us from God. It's those little things that can trip us up too, like the little foxes on the vine. May we have tender hearts that receive His correction so nothing can separate us. Sweet blessings to you, friend. : )

  • You wrote such truth today! It is time to clean out the closets so to speak and let God fill the space instead. I loved these words especially today… "Far too long, we dance around the corridors of sin and don't expect to get burnt." Thank you for allowing God to speak through you.

  • Yes, Ifeoma! Deep cleaning in our hearts is often not pretty or enticing, but it is so important- especially considering that that is where His Spirit dwells!! Thanks for sharing : ) Blessings!

  • Ifoema,
I agree that is is so key that we examine or heart and mind for any unconfessed or hidden sin that prevent us from reaching the heights that God has planned for us. Thank you for this heartfelt reminder and may God continue to bless you and yours. Have a wonderful week!

  • Thank you for reminding us to be still, to pray and ask God to search our hearts and show us the hidden sins. It's so easy to skip over them, but we all have them. May God bring them to light and help us as we confess and repent. Blessings to you! I'm visiting from #LMMLinkup.

  • btw, love to have you visit me at http://www.switchbacks.org too! : )

  • I think this is where community can help alot if we are willing to be open and honest. We tend to tolerate and rationalize things in our lives that obviously head us in the wrong direction and often a strong Christian friend can go a long way to help us see the dirt that's accumulating. I have such a trusted friend and have learned over the years that when she speaks straight, i'd be wise to lower my defenses and carefully consider and heed what she has to say. One might wonder how differently David's story might have been different if Jonathan had still been alive at the time he met Bathsheba.

  • Yes we have to get rid of that dirt. I'm finding the longer I know Him and study His Word the more dirt I am able to clean out. Love your analogy here. Great post.

  • The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.
You've given us a pattern for dealing with hidden sin, Ifeoma. Thanks for the gritty grace offered here!
