Bible Reading: Romans 5:7-21
From where I am sitting, I envision that quite a few alarms are going off right now. Hey, relax, friend.
At first thought, your answer may be “Oh yes, my salvation is free”.
So, you might be wondering, what’s the real issue here?
Let me tell you, the phrase “Salvation is free” has always troubled me.
You wonder why…
We tend to treat our salvation lightly simply because we believe it comes ‘free’!
The word ‘free’ tricks us into thinking it’s always within easy reach…
Anywhere? Yes,
Anyplace? Sure,
Anytime? Of course
But anyhow? Not quite right.
Because some conditions need to be met (see Romans 10:8-10)1
Think about those times in stores when items are handed out at a discount or for nothing at all.
In the same way, we often treat free things as less valuable, convincing ourselves they don’t really matter just because we didn’t pay for them.
Even if those products may, to the contrary, be worth so much.
But
God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ
died for us. Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be
saved from wrath through Him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled
to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved
by His life.
Romans 5:8-10
Do you get it?
Salvation is far from free! It deserves our highest honour, for it is a priceless gift from God.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it
is the gift of God
Ephesians 2:8
This might go against what you usually think, but the salvation Jesus offers came at an unimaginable cost.
A price we can’t pay.
Its value is beyond anything we could ever measure.
A price paid completely with the sacred blood of Jesus.
Now I ask you again, “Is the salvation of your soul free?”
When we begin to see ourselves as privileged to partake of this Grace, then we value the worth of…
Not just any blood!
Not the blood of goats or any animal kind!
But the Blood of Jesus!
As Summer approaches, I invite you to remember that Jesus paid the ultimate price for you. It is not free, but it has been fully paid.
This way, we can cherish the grace poured out on us with tenderness, deep appreciation, and true worth.

I don’t want to handle my life in Christ as free in the literary sense but as a precious gift from the ONE who loves and cares for me deeply.
I don’t want a casual word like “free” to depreciate the value of the precious gift of salvation.
Maybe if we understand how powerful it is to have this gift, we will be more compassionate, more tender-hearted, more loving, more of every goodness the Lord wants from us.
Prayer: Lord, I am grateful for the high price you paid for my salvation. I am grateful for every ounce of grace you have showered upon my life. I don’t
take it for granted; rather, Lord, I hold on to your precious gift of salvation in obedience to your will in Jesus Name.
