5 Ways to Overcome Emptiness in Marriage

Happily married to a loving man, blessed with a daughter—everything seemed to be going well.

Until, the feeling of emptiness towered down my soul, a vacuum begging to be filled, the gaping hole in my heart exposing an untouched layer that needs to be reached.

I searched deep within … I looked for something … yet nothing seemed out of place, but still emptiness clouded my heart.

Have you ever felt this emptiness?

I understood what it was to be in a happy home, but have the gut feeling that something was missing.

How could I explain my feelings to anyone? What was I going to say? Was I being ungrateful?

Maybe you think so, but until that longing was satisfied, my search was far from over.

Your emptiness could be a bad/good thing, which one is it?

Today, I share about what that empty feeling could imply. I also share how to fill your heart and longing for something more satisfying.

If you are a wife and have been feeling this way lately, I encourage you to hop over at Messy Marriage where I am a guest today.

Please share your experiences, testimonies and reflections in the comments I hope to see you there shortly.

I went to Messy Marriage to read the rest of this (you certainly know how to leave a suspenseful ending here!). I love your phrase ‘Emptiness can be an assignment’ – I’m going to ponder that for a while. And you are so right about the error of expecting our loved ones to fill the hole that only God fits. God bless you. (Visiting from Five Minute Friday)

I went over to read but she allows a pop-up to well, pop-up when you get there so I left. It’s a pet peeve of mine (I’ve even blogged about it…LOL) but I’m sure the post was wonderful! I do know that emptiness in a marriage, though. I’ve never experienced in any other place or relationship or situation in my life. But that’s a story that would take days to tell. 🙂 Have a wonderful Easter weekend!

  • Thanks for sharing with #SocialButterflySunday! Heading over to check out the rest of the post now! Blessings 🙂

  • Hi Ifeoma!

Howdy there! So, I've found you again in cyberspace!

Thanks so much for this insightful post. I think we all have experienced that empty feeling . . . and yes, it was only something that God could fill. Our poor husbands! Thank God they are so patient with us as we figure out that they are not our true source for happiness! (Lol!)

Found you over at the 100 Happy Days link-up!

    Blessings,

  • Hi Ifeoma,
I found your post on Dancing With Jesus link-Up. I have felt those feelings before too. It's so true that we can only rely on the Lord to fill us up…everything else falls short. Have a blessed day friend!

  • Thank you for sharing from your heart and experience. God uses our stories to help others. Thank you for allowing Him to use yours. Following you at FMF.

  • Your reasons for that emptiness are all valid. I like your response to pray and journal what the Holy Spirit is telling you. It is true that only God can really fill the empty places. Sometimes a woman needs a woman friend – – someone to share and pray with and for. My Foster daughter is one we bounce off ideas and thoughts with. My husband encourages and supports me to be free to work in my church even though he is not well enough to attend himself. Thank you for sharing with us at Tell me a Story.

    • Thank you Aunt Hazel. I value your wisdom in sharing Woman to Woman! I agree on that too.
      Blessings to you.

  • Of Roma. Thanks for sharing your heart. I know the feeling of be surrounded by love but all alone. It is a tough place to be. Thank you for sharing with us at Sitting Among Friends on Wednesdays. I look forward to seeing you again next week.

    • Thank you Jamie. I am happy this blessed your heart.

  • Ifeoma…as a single man I cannot really relate to being married but I love your thoughts here. I have been in relationships and I learned the hard way that only God can fill the empty spaces and the great thing is that is what He wants to do! Blessings to you and your in 2016 my friend!

    • You are right, Horace.
Thanks for offering your thoughts here.
      God Bless

  • This is certainly a helpful topic. May those who read be open-hearted to the truth that only God can fill our empty spaces.

  • Heading over to finish reading!

  • This is worth reading for those who are married already! thanks for sharing your wisdom on this. I hope that many couple read those and learn from this. especially today that most married couples break up.
