She was so sure she would get it right. She always does.
Certainly can’t happen to me. I take extra care..when it comes to my baby.
But in less than 30 seconds all that changed. Those were one of the longest 30 seconds ever for this first time mom who thought she knew it all and had it figured out.
The hot spill. Then came the screams.
Frantic panic.
Sweaty and shaky hands.
Phone calls to every ‘expert mom’ I knew.
‘Oh, Lord, No’.
My thoughts on expertise faded quickly. The Books, Magazines, Webzines, you name it… every knowledge seemed to have vanished.
And to think I got this Momma Business figured out? The joke is lost on me!
For the mom who thinks she knows it all, please get off that high horse before it throws you down.

A rotten fish smell. Can you smell it?
Pride, it was…gently permeating the air.
That day I came down my high horse!
I sat like a wet chicken.
Pride comes when we overly rely on
our abilities, our gifts, position, power and ‘self’
instead of God.
If you think this and that can’t happen to you, because you are the High-Up-There Perfect momma, then think again.
It is by His Grace only are we saved.
And not because you are righteous, or careful, or know-it-all, mom.
It is His Grace only, that keeps us.
There again, to the mom who makes mistakes, I am just like you.
That moment I realized I had relied on myself, my abilities and all that stuff I have read about mommyhood, parenting, caring for kids.
I failed to see those resources provided only a guide from their experiences. They were not foolproof.
They never wrote about losing your guard for less than 30 seconds. Perhaps, I would have prepared better.
Confidence shift. Game Changer.
By all means watch over your little ones but only God protects
I stopped thinking, I got this.
I began to trust God for every parenting process and stage.
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. Psalm 20:7
Dear Moms parenting is hard and we can’t do it alone.
We need to come with all our hearts to the place of surrender.
We need Jesus and even more in our parenting.
Shouldn’t we trust God and have confidence in Him?
Should not we get off our high horses and embrace Jesus?
Shouldn’t we share our stories and help another struggling momma?
God help us all. We are by no means close to perfection without the help of the Holy Spirit.
3 Practical Reminders
Be willing to admit you don’t know it all.
Put God First in your parenting.
Ask for help when and where necessary.
Pride tells you, ‘you are all that and don’t need nothing’.
But a gentle reminder for us all….
We can’t do parenting on our own. We all need God’s Help.
Prayer
Dear, Lord forgive my foolishness in thinking I can do this without you. Dear Lord, take away that prideful spirit that causes me to rely on myself instead of You, Jesus. Forgive me for wanting my desires get in the way of your will. Father, I surrender my children to you. I bring them back to you.
But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the Lord, and there abide for ever. 1 Samuel 1:22
Guide me through this delicate process of watching over and leading these young hearts. Teach me Lord. Open my eyes to see what I need. Give me wisdom to handle every situation. Control my emotions dear Lord. Hide my heart in the safety of Your Word in Jesus Name. Amen.
