How to Speak Life-Giving Words Over Your Children

During our last Month’s Mom’s Prayer Meeting, one lady shared how her mom would come to their room at night and begin to pray over them. She recanted how her mom did these prayer sessions most nights even while they were teens.

Her mom found a way to impact into their lives through laying hands and speaking life into them. In her charge, she encouraged us moms to do same.

Death and Life are power of the mouth.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21

Do you see speaking life-giving words is intentional?

The fruit of the lips of the righteous is life. Life- Giving Words can come from a heart that is full of life. And Life is found in the Word. Dear moms there are nourishing scriptures to speak over your children’s life. The Words of the scriptures are life-giving.

What words do you say over your children?

Do you constantly hurt their lives with your sharp tongues?

Why you need to Speak Life Over Your Children

I am drawn to the Moabites and Balaam story. Here is a wicked King who understood the power behind words! He knew if he fought the Israelites physically, he would lose. He decides to project negative words into their lives.

Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed. Numbers 22:6

But God…

The donkey talking was nothing short of God stepping in. The Words of Blessings that have been released over the seed of Abraham countered every enemy’s plot at cursing the children of Israel.

Sister, Mom and friend, spiritual battles and Life battles start and end with Words!

Bible Reading: Numbers 22

Don’t Give the Enemy a Foothold. There are many of us who have been told negative words while growing up. For many of us the wounds are as fresh as they were the first time. That has become a foothold!

If you don’t take precious care of the words that proceed out of your mouth, you will give the enemy grounds to release negativity into the life of your children

Don’t pull your kids to destruction. Do we need to stress this any further? Don’t entrap your children into a life path of destruction through your words!

A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul. Proverbs 18:7

Do it to keep their destinies. Recall your words are either life-giving or death-giving. It’s your pick!

5 Scriptures For Moms Who Struggle With Negative Words

I know is not every mom who has a lead in this area. In fact, it does not come naturally to speak life! It takes the Holy Spirit to control our utterances.

If you struggle with anger, or you find that your utterances occasionally tend towards negativity, it is nothing to be ashamed of. As you repent of it today, as the Lord to place a coal of fire upon your lips

Quick PrayerDear Lord, I repent of every negativity, swear words and curses I have spoken. Father, forgive me. I cancel every negative utterance I have said over my children in Jesus name. Lord, place a coal of fire upon my lips and purify my tongue. Lord, fill my mouth with your goodness in Jesus name. Amen (Psalm 103:5; Isaiah 6:5-7)

With the Word of God hid in your heart, you will overcome. Here are 5 scriptures to help moms.

Psalm 34:13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Psalm 81:10 I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

Psalm 141:3 Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

Isaiah 6: 5-7  Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged

5 Ways To Speak Life-Giving Words Over Your Children

Hand in Hand: Sometimes, I find my daughter trying to touch my hand when she is praying. Usually, we hold hands in prayer and I am happy she is doing same. When we hold our hands in prayer with our kids we bond our relationship even in spiritual matters.

Speak Life over every area of their lives and over every parts of your children’s body.

Prayer Walk. I love this! It is a practical spiritual activity. When we take occasional walks in the evening, I hold her hand as we stroll. Then I ask her, ‘Is there anything you want us to pray about?’

It would surprise you, your kids have a lot on the minds too *smiling*. Doesn’t Jesus hear us all? Use this opportunity to pray for and along with your daughter

Pour Out Morning Blessings. I learnt this some years ago from my aunt. She would call me, give me a scripture, and ask me to declare it over the children before they left for school. Powerful isn’t it? I try not to miss this moment. Even after usual morning devotions, find a scripture and declare it over the each child.

Provoked Blessings. Our kids look for ways to make us happy. Yes they do…even when they don’t get it right, bless them for even trying to surprise you. Seek ways to bless your children as they do chores, help around with younger siblings.

Say more than Thank You! Your kids would learn and begin to do values and actions that provoke blessings.

Forgive and Bless. I like the story of Micah and his mom. He realized he was wrong and had provoked curses for his actions. He repented and confessed to his mother. I like what his mom did, she forgave him and blessed him.

And he said unto his mother, The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from thee, about which thou cursedst, and spakest of also in mine ears, behold, the silver is with me; I took it. And his mother said, Blessed be thou of the Lord, my son. Judges 17:2

How many times do you forgive and bless your children?

Do you hold it against them?

Today, call that child, offer forgiveness and release your blessings over his life.

I know kids could be rebellious and strong willed especially with teens but the power of love, forgiveness and life-giving words go a long way.
