5 Truths When Your Heart Struggles To Believe

Last year, I wrote a mini-series on ‘Believe’. In case you missed them, you can follow the links below:

I have had those tough days when I felt pressed
down and really thought may be this was it…Amid the terror attacks, the fears in this wicked world many question if God is in this. They question if God were still alive.
I too have had those desperate calls for help. But deep inside, something stronger than my feelings of desperation held me back from being tipped over.

God held me back!
He pulled me away from the road I thought seemed
right.

Whether
we choose to believe God or not, He never changes.
He won’t stop being God because we aren’t sure
whether we believe Him or not or we choose to stop believing that God is.
There are times we wonder if the Lord
hears us or if He is still there. We can’t help but ask if God really loves us.
Yes, there are days we struggle with “Believe”.

Please stay with me here!

The choice to believe is entirely up to us. In fact, our whole life as believers is about our Believe.

There is nothing that can come between us and God not even death itself! So amid all the fears in whatever name it bears, it can’t pull us away from the love of Christ.

Who shall separate us from the love of
Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Romans
8:35

The word “”Believe” is stronger than we know it. It is an action-filled, very potent word that
draws us closer to our expectation.
Let me rephrase…
The more we tune our hearts to believe our faith
grows, our expectations become manifestations.
Our whole life is woven in faith.

Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. Hebrews 10:38

Losing our faith or when we stop believing we stop
living (Habakkuk 2:4).

Something gradually dies inside of us when we stop believing the Lord
will come through for us.
Come what may, our living is by faith which comes
through us believing that the Lord is.
*Those that come to God must believe that He is* (Hebrews 11:6)

We should choose to Believe in the
Lord.

We should choose to believe in the Lord; not in our past, or our possessions or our mistakes
or our failed dreams or in the enemy’s lies, but in the Lord Jesus because everything else will fall the through
the cracks but Him alone remains unchanged”
.
5 Truths When Your Heart Struggles to Believe

* You live in a life doubt; When you are in doubt you cannot
receive anything from the Lord.

But let him ask in faith, nothing
wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind
and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the
Lord. A double minded man is
unstable in all his ways.

James 1:6-8

* You open yourself to the attacks of the enemy; Unbelief leaves you vulnerable to the enemy.

Above all, taking the shield of faith,
wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Ephesians 6:16
We strip ourselves off our defences when we stop to believe.

* You reject His Word: When God speaks His Word to our hearts, He needs us to believe. Our faith is all about believing His Word for our lives. And like Mary, let us say, “Be it unto me according to thy word”

And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of
the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

Luke 1:38

* Unbelief opposes your expectation: Just as the father of the child cried out for help, He asked Jesus to help him in his struggle…. It is wisdom to lay it at His feet as ask the Lord for help in areas you struggle to believe.

Jesus said unto him, If thou canst
believe, all things are possible
to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and
said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

Mark 9:23-24

* We stagger at God’s Promise: We have to be fully persuaded that God would perform His promises for our lives.

He staggered not at the promise of God
through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully
persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Romans 4:20-21

What determines if we receive what we have asked the Lord is our faith which comes from us believing in His Promises for us.

Have you stopped believing?

You aren’t sure any more if the Lord is with you?
I have been there and I am glad to let you know
that God will not leave nor forsake you.

Whatever life is throwing at you will
not consume you because you are God’s property and not the enemy’s play thing.
Now is not the time to give-up our faith, it is not the time to stop believing God. But rather, it is a time to stand firm despite what the world throws at us.

Close your eyes and like that man said to Jesus
with the whole of your being say “Lord help my unbelief

You can go ahead and say it again.
Prayer: Lord, help my unbelief. I believe every
word you have said concerning my life, family, finances, _________ in Jesus
name. Thank you for the blessings you have showered on me. Amen.

  • Lord, Help my unbelief! There are days we all need that. I love the verse you quoted here, Who shall separate us from the love of God? It is so reassuring to know we are His and nothing can separate from His Love! Thank you so much for coming weekly to Sitting Among Friends. I look forward to seeing you next week!

  • "He won’t stop being God because we aren’t sure whether we believe Him or not" – so.very.true! And, I totally agree with you that our doubts open us to be attacked further. Thank you for your inspiring words and for sharing with us at Faith Filled Parenting! We hope you'll join us again Monday!

  • Thank you for sharing this encouragement at EncourageMe Linkup. I really appreciate you and your writings.

Thank you for sharing this encouragement on the Art of Home-Making Monday! Your writing is such a blessing! 🙂

  • Thank you for sharing these precious thoughts. I have had times in my recent past when I really struggled to believe. I think what you share here will help others in similar situations.

  • I have been in that place of unbelief. It is a horrible, desert place. One I never want to return to again. It truly is a choice to believe Him at His word. Regardless of how we feel, His word is present for us to believe in. Thanks for linking up with Grace and Truth, Ifeoma. I have chosen your post as my feature for this Friday. Make sure to stop by my site then to get your "I was featured" button.

  • Beautiful post and I can relate to praying SO many times, "God I do believe but help me with my unbelief."

  • Thank you for sharing with us here at Tell me a Story. Yes, I believe – – and when my faith is weak – – He helps my unbelief.

  • Thanks so much for sharing. We all struggle from time to time with our belief in this awesome invisible, yet most powerful God!

  • My dear Ifeoma, forgive me for being so late to visit you, but 'tis better to be late than not come by at all, right? 🙂

Your post was so beautiful written and such a sweet encouragement to my heart.

I greatly appreciate you sharing this wonderful post with Roses of Inspiration. Have a lovely week! Hugs!

  • Thank you for this open and honest post, Ifeoma. I do struggle with belief and when it happens I have to ask the Lord to help me because I know all the wonderful things He has done for me and I don't want a moment of unbelief to keep me from trusting He will do it again. Thank you for sharing with Thankful Thursdays.

  • Ifeoma, thanks for this meditation and for the exhortation here to BELIEVE! Just today I read, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever BELIEVES in me will never be thirsty." John 6:35

    Good encouragement here today!

  • I am at this point this week in a personal battle of health and finances. Facing the dilemma of medicines I can't afford. Thank you for your post. I am going to pray more diligently about this and worry less.

  • thanks for these helpful words today ♥

  • Hey Ifeoma,
I always appreciate how sincere you are. Yes, there are days that I struggle with belief too. I like how you point out that on those days, we can choose to keep believing. In many ways, belief is a choice. It's nice to be reminded that I'm not the only one who wrestles with doubt and unbelief at times. Thank you for this honest, and encouraging post. There are plenty of days where I am right there with you, praying: “Lord help my unbelief.”

  • Belief is such a tough concept for our weak sinful flesh. I am leading a group of women in a Bible study "Help My Unbelief" by Barnabas Piper. I really like how he shows the difference between wanting to understand God and disbelief and guides us through different ways we can grow our belief. Such an important part of our faith, for sure!

  • I began to sing an old song: "God makes a way through the wilderness – – All we have to do is follow – -"
The night may seem dark, but the sun will rise again and the Son will bring healing in His wings.
Thank you for reminding us that God is there and He never fails and will Never leave us. Thanks for sharing with us here at Tell me a Story.

  • The amazing truth is that God will give us a spirit to believe more and more as we continue to ask Him for it.

  • May we always be like the father who cried out, "Lord, help my unbelief!" Wonderfully transparent post. Thank you for sharing, Ifeoma! Blessings!

  • Thank you for these scriptures and prayer prompts. It's easy to say we believe but when it comes right down to it, it can be so hard. Thank you for this!

  • Beautiful truth here! He is who is no matter how I feel. Amen. There is so much comfort in knowing that! Thanks for sharing those beautiful promises, too! Blessings my friend!

  • Thank you for these words Ifeoma. There are times when unbelief sneaks into my own life. I am not always sure I recognize it immediately. All I know is that something feels off. Praying to God to help us with our unbelief is a beautiful way of letting Him know we can't do this without you. I am sure He smiles when we come to Him with everything. Blessings on your day and week.

  • Faith wouldmy be a journey if there weren't some setbacks and obstacles. I love what you said but God never changes we do and sometimes even though we don't see immediate results we have to rely on His promises. I have had my share of momentary lapse in beliefs. God's love for me has shown me through.

  • Wow. This was great to read and be reminded of! Scripture is indeed our daily bread and has relieved a lot of my anxieties. God's promises are true if you just believe in Him. Thanks for compiling all these verses. My heart is filled.

  • Ifeoma,
I tried to follow you on your Salvation post, but my computer wouldn't transfer me?? I always appreciate your honest words and insight! Will try again, but just wanted you to know…
    Blessings,
    Bev

  • Such wonderful antidote to a heart poisoned with suffering and struggles.

  • It takes courage and faith to keep believing in those perilous times. Great scriptures you listed!

  • So many good scriptures. There is so much truth in HIS word which is what I turn too when my heart is having a hard time

  • Ah, yes, like many I have struggled with unbelief at times. But as I continue to grow in my faith I know that God is right there beside me guiding and leading me through my journey.

  • Oh, yes. I can so relate. I have my moments of unbelief, particularly when I'm struggling with depression. The Lord always pulls me back from the pit of despair. Satan is busy and will do everything he can to convince us God does not care.

  • Ifeoma … knowing that God will never change and never leave and never give up on me has been a much-needed lifeline along the way, a great source of peace and comfort.

Thank you for going there today …

  • Ifeoma, I love this open, honest, transparent post! I so agree with you that we can tear down the lies of satan that wallpaper our minds, and re-wallpaper with the Truth of God's word, resting in His finished work on the cross, as He wraps His loving arms around us…our Abba Daddy will never leave us or forsake us. Many blessings to you!

  • Don't you love how something stronger than our feelings tips us over?
