Grateful for the ‘Unexpected’

Grateful for the ‘Unexpected’

‘I just want to know what the wooden chips in the bowl were. I have seen you eat those,’ he said.

My eyes widened in surprise at the young man’s question. ‘What do you mean?’ I asked, eager to clear up any misunderstanding.

‘Please don’t be embarrassed. I don’t know what it is’. He replied.

His open expression revealed just how sincere he was.

‘Ok it is called Cornflakes!’

With his curiosity satisfied, he quietly slipped away.

Friends, I leaned back in my office chair and pondered deeply over what had just unfolded.

Friends, I am not ashamed to admit that moment lifted my gratitude to a whole new height.

Be Thankful For the Very Ordinary Things In Your Life

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with
benefits, even the God of our salvation.

Psalm 68:19

The Lord grants us daily graces,

God gives us daily benefits,

He pours out daily blessings.

I started thanking God for every small thing in my life, even something as simple as cornflakes. What ‘cornflakes’ are you grateful for?

This could be the people, things, or events around you.

I learned to be grateful for every single cornflake on my plate. What feels ordinary to me could be a miracle to someone else.

Yes, dear friend, the broken car in your garage, the old toys and clothes, the smallest room in your apartment, the out-of-style shoes and household items, the running water in your home, the garden of flowers—all of these and so much more are someone else’s dream come true.

In that encounter, God showed me how thankfulness can shine through in small yet wonderful ways.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise:

be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting;

and his truth endureth to all generations.

Psalm 100:4-5 KJV

Let’s raise our gratitude even higher.

Instead of focusing on your circumstances, turn your attention to the seemingly ordinary daily miracles.

Think about all the ordinary things in your daily life you certainly don’t pay for or pray for.

Think about the very ordinary things that beg for you to notice them.

Think about the ‘ordinary people’ you take for granted, too.

Be thankful for them.

Count your blessings.

By His Great Grace,
Ifeoma Samuel
