Advent Day 1: An Undeserved Favor

“But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.” Luke 1:30

God found favor with a hidden teenager. She was not famous. Her family was not wealthy. She had not been trained for a great future. And yet, God found favor with her.

We can see the heart of submission that dwelt deep within her, when we see her answer to the angel. We all know that she said “yes” to God’s call.

But what if she had not obeyed?

What if she had given in to fear?

The favor of God came first to Mary, and then to us. She opened the door to carry the child who would open the door for each of us to live in God’s Love.

Am I willing to answer His call on my life?

Will I receive God’s favor, His love for me?

Family Activities: Pray for families within your church community.

Pray for the Pastor and his home.

Pray for other ministers and the homes at this time. Include a few of these people in your gift list especially those who need it the most.

Prayer: Dear Lord give me an open heart to receive your favor. I say YES to your will. I say YES to your call upon my life. I say YES to the path you have chosen for me and my household in Jesus name. Amen

  • Hi, this is a wonderful series. I recommended it on my #LMMLinkup Advent Resources post today. 🙂 http://maryanderingcreatively.com/lmmlinkup-advent-resources/

I hope you link up all the pages with us each week.

    • Hi Mary,
Thank you so much for your encouragement and recommendation! You are a blessing and an encouragement! I am praying for you today, dear RA Sister. May the Lord give you extra strength throughout this Season. And I am headed to your link-up now! 🙂

  • Bettie, these are thoughts and concerns I share as I wonder how to host the Holy in my soul. I love how you have linked Jesus being the Door for us with Mary’s open heart of faith in these words: “She opened the door to carry the child who would open the door for each of us to live in God’s Love.” Thank you for this lovely reflection, dear friend. It’s good to see you sharing here! xoxo <3

    • Dear Joy,
Oh yes, what an awesome thought that the Holy One would want to be hosted by us! I am so pleased that the sentence with the open door touched you my friend! It was actually a thought that Barry & I pondered on together! Isn’t God so good to bring us together, for His holy thought process? I am so thankful that we can pray for each other through these waiting days. I appreciate your encouragement so much! Blessings and Love to you! xoxo

  • I read somewhere that it was awe-inspiring to think the King of the Universe would dwell in a teenage womb. So glad she said yes!

    • Dear Jerralea,
Thank you for that amazing thought! I am so thankful that she followed the call of God on her life too! Blessings to you!

  • So nice to visit with both of you today! May God bless each of you during this beautiful Christmas season!! I am SO thankful Mary obeyed, and your words make me wonder just what is riding on our faithfulness? What if we do not obey God’s call on our lives? Who or what will suffer? God, help us to be faithful to Him and His call always! Surely we were all put here for such a time as this!!! Thank you for this encouragement. 🙂

    • Dear Cheryl,
And thank you for visiting here with us! You bring up such good thoughts here, pondering the effects of our obedience. He does allow each of us to be connected throughout His Body, and you are so right that we need to see the purposes that we have to love and encourage each other! Blessings and love to you during this beautiful Christmas time also!

  • Dear Brenda,
It’s very nice to meet you too! Yes, won’t Heaven be wonderful, as we get to meet and share with all of these characters that we’ve only read about? What stories they will be able to tell us! Blessings to you this Advent Season!

  • A remarkable teenager she was. Look forward to meeting Mary on the other side of eternity one day. Nice to meet you, Bettie. Thank you for sharing today. ((hug))

  • So excited to be sharing this with you Ifeoma! Thank you for inviting me to join you on this journey this month! Blessings to you and your family!

    • Thank you my dearest friend. It is a tremendous blessing to have you here.
      God bless
