Sweeping the Inner Corners of Our Hearts

I set about cleaning and scrubbing, just as I do most weekends, but this weekend felt different. I discovered hidden crevices and forgotten corners I usually pass by, yet on this day, I decided to go beyond my usual routine.

As I wiped the windowpanes, I noticed how much dust had gathered over the long, dusty season. They needed more than just a quick swipe. That day, as I cleaned, my thoughts wandered to deeper things. I soon realised there are hidden places in my own life that need cleansing too.

We all have nooks and crannies we tend to ignore. Leave them untouched, and sooner or later, the dust will blow right back in our faces.

“Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the
hidden part thou shalt make
me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I
shall be whiter than snow”. Psalm 51:6-7

If we truly want to draw near to the Lord, we must sweep away even the smallest dirt in our lives. No offering or sacrifice can take its place. He is not desirous of your sacrifice; what He wants is your clean hands and a pure heart.

Further Reading: Psalm 51:16-17

Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who shall stand in his holy place?

“He that hath clean hands, and a pure
heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He
shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his
salvation. This is the
generation of them that seek him that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah”.

Psalm 24:3 -6

Did you catch that? We are “the generation that seeks Him…”

Please join me and make this prayer: Lord, cleanse my life; grant that my heart be pure before thee, O Lord. Nothing else matters than to dwell in your presence; let your mercy flood over my soul. Make my hands clean and rid me of strange thoughts and desires that are contrary to your Word in Jesus name. Amen

If only David had noticed his own hidden faults, perhaps the story of Bathsheba would have ended differently. Yet he paid dearly for his carelessness.

For too long, we have danced through the corridors of sin, pretending we will never get burned. Hidden dirt clings to us like heavy weights, always pulling us back.

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud
of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily.

Are you lost, hurt, discouraged? Do you feel unworthy and undeserving of love? Are you the one too shy to draw near or the one who feels lonely or messy? Good News! There is space for you at His feet.
