My friend rarely reached out for help. We cherished every moment we got to pray, yet that year brought trials. The enemy kept us on our toes, battling from every side. Remember, behind every screen are real people facing real struggles and holding on to real faith.
If you love to pray, you might notice your prayer time often fills with others’ needs. Sometimes, your own needs fade into the background as the list of requests grows longer.
As an intercessor, the ministry can feel overwhelming. Pouring your heart out in prayer for others and offering counsel can leave little room for your own needs.

Every intercessor must seek that delicate balance and guard it fiercely. You cannot fix every problem, not even your own. Only God meets our needs. Never forget, you are simply a vessel.

You do not have to fight your battles alone.
You pray for others, the church,
You pray for your family,
You lift up your ministry and your children in prayer,
You need friends who will pray with you!
As watchmen, we stand guard at the gates, contending with the enemy. Powerful deliverance happens in prayer. Did anyone expect the enemy to be pleased with you?
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil,
as a roaring lion, walketh about,
seeking whom he may devour:“

To minister effectively, spiritual warfare demands that you stay consistent, refuelled, and vibrant in your war room.

Why should you pray for yourself as an intercessor?
1. Sometimes, you grow weary. Elijah knew exhaustion well. The battle lines were drawn; he fought alone, and his strength was fading. We share his passion for ministry, and sometimes, his struggles too.
When he thought he was alone, God opened his eyes to see people taking a stand for the truth, just like he was.
“And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts:
because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant,
thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets
with the sword; and I, even I only, am left;
and they seek my life, to take it away.“
1 Kings 19:14
2. The enemy waits in the shadows, looking for a chance to exploit our weaknesses. Yet, by God’s power, we overcome every dart he throws. Temptations come, but by His grace, we stand victorious.
3. What if there is filth? Joseph, the priest who loved God in Zechariah 3, stood before Him on behalf of the people, yet something kept him from fully entering God’s presence.
It was his filthy garments that held him back!
What filth is the accuser using against you in your war room?
His garments needed to be changed. Maybe your garment needs a change too, just like Joseph’s. Or perhaps you need the cleansing of hyssop, like in Psalm 51. Whatever it is, trust that the Lord will remove every stain in Jesus’ name.
4. Sometimes, unusual battles call for unusual prayers. Recently, my war room prayers centred on Galatians 5. Within that chapter, I found a prayer that transformed everything.
5. Your needs matter just as much. I confess, I sometimes minimise my own needs, but that is not how it should be. Even Apostle Paul prayed for his own struggles while lifting others in prayer.

A Prayer for Higher Grounds: Lord, bid me to draw nearer to thee in Jesus name. I can’t come near save by your grace; let your great grace lead me to the Rock that is higher than I, in Jesus name.
A Prayer for Full Benefits: As I stand in the place of prayers for others, may I not lose my reward. The husbandman is the first partaker of the fruits of the vine. Father, let me reap the reward of serving the saints in Jesus name.
