When Mercy Speaks

Bible Reading: Genesis 19: 1-20, Genesis 18: 23-33

After a visit to Abraham and confirming the promise of Isaac. The angels’ visitation was bitter and Sweet at the same time. Bitter for the people of Sodom and Gomorrah

The Lord would not do anything without first revealing to His prophets. Amos 3:8

He told Abraham his intention towards Sodom and Gomorrah.

Abraham remembered His nephew Lot.

He began to plead mercy on his case Genesis 18: 23-33.

If only there 10 men found! But there was none except Noah.

The great city was sin-soaked, sodden and gutted in wickedness.

It’s cup was filled up with abominations.

But Mercy spoke on Lot’s behalf.

Though the men of the city tried to withstand the mercy of God that visited Lot, Mercy still prevailed.

Genesis 19: 17 escape to the mountain he was told.

Simply means, don’t stay around the plains…everywhere here is stinking with pollution. Escape to the mountain.

The whole world lies in absolute wickedness.

There is no place of safety here save the Mountain.

Why the mountain?

That Mountain is Mount Zion, the City of the Lord.

That’s our only way out of this quagmire.

His dwelling place. (Jeremiah 31:6)

His Holy Land. (Isaiah 2:3)

That’s where the escape is.

That’s where our deliverance will come. (Obadiah 1:17)

That’s where there is Holiness and purity.

The Bible compares our generation with Sodom and Gomorrah. Men operating in deceit and deceiving yet many others. People leaving their first love. Abandoning the Cross. Returning to the very things that once were renounced as dogs to feces.

Is our day not worse than the days of Sodom and Gomorrah?

Is wickedness not glorified and approved today?

A Day of destruction is reserved for this generation. The world is preparing for it. The signs are everywhere. We can see it. We know it’s true. Just as it is written in Joel 2:1 and 32

Who then shall be saved?

And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved? And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. Luke 18:26-27

But A remnant shall escape. God always made sure His people had a way of escape. He did so for Ezra, (Ezra 9:8 and 15). He did it for Noah through the ark.

By God we will escape.

By the Mercy of God.

Mercy still speaks!

As it is written in Hebrews, How can we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; Hebrews 2:3

The Salvation of the Soul is great.

Jesus did it for us.

Jesus paid the ultimate price.

He paid it in full.

Jesus paid it with Blood.

He bore that shame for you and me.

I cannot neglect that. You shouldn’t too my dear friend.

Today’s Prayers

Lord Jesus, come into my heart. The world is lost and destined for destruction but save my soul, oh Lord. Let your presence surround me and fill me with your presence. Open the eyes of my heart to see the Great Salvation you have brought me to.

As I set my eyes steady on the Cross, remind me daily of eternal its purpose in Jesus name. Lord I pray for my family and friends who are yet to know you. Lord let your mercy speak on their behalf. Draw them to you, Father and make them come to the knowledge of Truth in Jesus name. Amen.

Thanks Ifeoma, for This beautiful reminder of Gods mercy. My prayer is that I am desperately in need of Gods mercy to save me from the consequences of my bad action. Lord May your mercy speak on my behalf.

    • Amen….
His mercies are new every morning
Jesus loves you. The blood of Jesus speaks louder, deeper and most lovingly than any voice including the enemy’s false accusations.

Isn’t it amazing how many ways He provides for us to see his invitation to come and rest in His grace and mercy? I was reading in Exodus 33 this morning about the way He gives us rest by His presence and here you are showing us that He gives us escape by His mercy. What an amazing God we serve! What a faithful God we serve!

I am always encouraged when I spend time here with you, Ifeoma.
    Bless you!

    Tina

  • I also cannot neglect that. And it’s all amazing grzce!

  • Oh, Ifeoma, isn’t it so sad to see the resemblance today. God’s heart must be so heavy. “Mercy still speaks.” That’s beautiful. Thank you for that encouragement. — Funny, I’m reading in Genesis right now and just read this story the other day. Perfect timing. 🙂 (p.s. I think you may have a little typo at the top. It reads Noah where I think you meant to say Lot. 🙂 ) Hope you have a wonderful Easter, friend. ((xoxo))

    • Oh yes, Brenda I meant Noah. When God’s grace allowed him to escape the flood destruction ?
I put more words there to further explain!
      Thanks for sharing your observation.
      Happy Easter to you

  • Thank you for this reminder of where we must run…to the mountain! Wonderful post as usual. Thank you for sharing it with us at Encouraging Word Wednesday this week!

I’m so grateful for the Lord’s mercy, Ifeoma, and I love the examples you offer us of how God responded with mercy and help for Abraham and so many others. I’m reminded of one of my favorite verses, “… May your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need” Psalm 79:8b. And I feel like I am always in desperate need! 😉

  • God has different plans and logic and that makes Him God and us mortals. 🙂
Beautiful lessons to learn from the Bible. I love His mercy!

  • Thanks for this reminder! I’m so glad God’s mercy is new every day.
    Have a Happy Easter!

  • Oh, I love this, Ifeoma! “Mercy still speaks.” Amen! I’m so grateful that grace rules my life instead of what I deserve. Have a blessed Easter week!

  • Thank you for this reminder. Well said. #twinklytuesday

  • My theme seems to be grace. Our need of grace: receiving and giving grace.
When Mercy Speaks – LOVE that!
Thanks for linking up at inspire Me Monday!

  • It’s easy to think we’re ‘not that bad’ as a culture and ignore the signs. Thank you for your reminder that we need to choose Jesus and seek HIS kingdom–not our own!

  • I have been studying about mercy and it is such a beautiful part of God’s Character.

    • Super excited to see you Helene??
      Thanks for stopping by.
      Hugs

  • Dear Ifeoma,
Thank you for these beautiful words on this week approaching Good Friday, and Resurrection Sunday. Your words reminded me of the Cece Winans song from a few years ago: “Mercy Said No.” Some of the words are: “Darkness tried to steal my heart away, but mercy said no.” Jesus made a way for us to be saved, His remnant to be rescued! I’m so grateful for these good reminders this morning, and precious ways to pray for our loved ones! –Blessings to you, Dear Sister!

    • I so love that song!
      Thanks for the reminder ?
      Grateful for Mercy, Bettie.
      Hearty ? Blessings to you

  • Ifeoma, I love your voice here — in speaking for God you are conveying mercy as well as truth, and our hearts need both. Blessings to you, and thanks for the visit over at God-sized Dreams.

    • You are welcome, Michelle. I always enjoy your devotions
      God bless

  • Beautiful. Except for Gods mercy where would we be. Thank you

    • Well said Tracie!
