Becoming A Woman of Understanding
I saved this for the tail end of our study because this really opened my eyes to see the foolishness of frequent anger.
How is it that some women are able to keep their cool?
How is it that these gentle women command a lot of respect?
Yes there are women we embrace in our hearts as motherly, welcoming and we just feel safe around them.
It is not something they verbally do. It is the way they carry themselves. There is something about their demeanour that embodies serenity. We are drawn to their lifestyle. They aren’t perfect women, but we can learn from them.

What kind of a woman do you want to be?
What old nature needs to wear off?
There are all kinds of godly women. As we grow and mature in faith, our old nature wears off 2 Peter2:2. Remember we discussed that in our previous study.
I want to be the woman who doesn’t blow out at any slightest provocation. The woman able to keep her peace and joy regardless of prevailing circumstances. What a about you, sister?
When we desire and work through our messes and shortcomings, sister, that is growing in every sense. Don’t choose to remain in the mire. We have to get out of that dirt soiling our garment.
The above describes the nature of the woman in 1 Peter 3:1-6
There is an adornment for a godly sister, whether married or unmarried. “The ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which in the sight of God of great price”

What does the Lord see of great worth in a woman?
Compare that to the “many daughters have done well but thou excellest them all” Proverbs 31:29
Do you see scripture building upon scripture?
There’s a nature peculiar to a godly woman. Proverbs 31: 10-31
She is no slob or doormat. She’s is hardworking, goodly natured, enterprising, content, planned and strategic, keeper of her home.
How can I be a woman that excels in character?

Do a Verse Study on the following.
Proverbs 17:27-28 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: And a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: And he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding (KJV)
Proverbs 14:29- A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man promotes folly (Berean Study Bible)
Notice these Key Words and make your notes on “sparing your words”, “a wo(man of understanding)”, “an excellent spirit”, great understanding”, quick-tempered, folly(foolishness)
Who is a Woman of Understanding?
The woman with a heart of understanding seeks to uncover the tiny important details of a matter before she makes her judgment of the situation. Ever heard that things are not always as they appear?
A woman of understanding is a woman of few words. Even in the heat of anger, she considers her words because she knows the weight they carry. She knows when to shut her lips and when to speak. She knows what to say. She is mindful of the content of her conversation and the tone in which she uses to communicate.
It takes understanding to ask why. To hear from both sides carefully. Wisdom makes insight to hard matters available. Proverbs 20:5
The heart of understanding seeks “slow responses” instead of “fast and quick reactions”.
Do you see wisdom in chasing slow?
A lot of us are spontaneous, witty, and highly opinionated endorsed by our 21st century lifestyle. We want to be heard and heard on top of our voices too. Believe me, social media makes it worse. We are cornered to give our opinion on every matter that flies by our Newsfeed and drawn to the drama.
We air our dirty laundry outside and careless of repercussions.
We demand for likes shares and social approval. As if that’s not enough, lives have ended from those careless words spewed out on social media.

Is there wisdom in the loud and often popular culture?
How should a godly wise woman approach hotly debated topics?
The world clamors for the wild, carefree, thoughtless lifestyle. Sister, we know better because we have wisdom.
Wisdom is to choose words carefully especially in troublesome matters; to be slow to speak; slow to wrath. Colossians 4:6, James 1:9.
It takes understanding choose what matter the most.
There’s a spirit of understanding and the Lord can give you that heart of understanding.

The woman who has a heart of understanding has an excellent spirit.
In everything we do, our desire should be to please God. We cannot walk in a way that pleases God without God Colossians 1:9-10
We can ask the Lord for divine wisdom. James 1:5. As wives and moms, we need lots of wisdom to manage the affairs in our homes and other places where we minister to others.
It takes God’s wisdom to excel in character and not the kind of wisdom the world pushes.
Words of Affirmation.
I am a wise-hearted woman.
I am a woman of great understanding
Prayer:
Lord make me a woman full of wisdom and understanding. Teach me by Your Word to know discretion, when to speak, what to say and how to say it. Like the women of old, dear Lord, make me a wise-hearted woman. Thank you for showing me that divine wisdom can only be obtained from you. Give me your excellent spirit, Lord. Thank you for making that wisdom available to your children in Jesus name. Amen
