Why You Need To Slay Your Goliath

3 Life Changing Reasons To Slay That Goliath

I looked through the weeds that were near ankle size. It troubled me having my small garden and surrounds covered up this way.

It didn’t used to be this way.

I had left this wild plant growing for two long months. Most weeds were way past my ankle.

As you imagine, it took more time rooting them out. It took longer field hours. It took more work.

Giants don’t just stroll in. they have always been there. What happened was we let them roam free!

Goliath didn’t just arrive here. The Philistines have always being their enemies.

They let it happen.

It was a slow plummet into the hands of their enemies.

It starts with one small procrastination, to gradual descent to disobedience then an eventual forsake of the divine instruction.

Watch the video discussion. It is so good! I kid you not. HERE

Bible Readings: Deuteronomy 12, Deuteronomy 20, Numbers 21:1-3, Joshua 23

How does this relate to us?

Take porn for instance. It doesn’t start in a day.

Permissive slow acceptance of overtly sexual scenes to wanting more of those content.

Same goes for other addictions, dangerous habits, sins and strongholds.

We begin playing with them innocently.

We procrastinate their total exclusion from our lives despite their potential harm.

They become habits.

Then they move to total control of unsuspecting victims.

Unfinished business has a way of surfacing in the future.

Did you catch “Utterly destroy” in Deuteronomy 20:17 and also in Deuteronomy 7:1-5? God gave a verdict for the idolatry and abominations of these nations.

He knows the ways of the people. He knows their wicked acts and idolatry. He knows they will deal harshly with the Israelites at a later time. He knows they will distract them from following His commands.

Not only for their sins were they destroyed, God was concerned for His people.

But as we know it, the Israelites did not fully obey.

Read this: The Danger of Partial Obedience

Have you followed the Israelites journey from Egyptian bondage to freedom then again falling into captivity more than we dare count?

The children of Israel did not overnight become the “children of captivity” as Ezra 4:1 puts it. It was gradual and steady descent into chains.

They refused to confront sin.

They neglected the giant of sin and perversion taking over their lands.

In the Book of Judges, we see the Israelites fall back into sin and get delivered on and on through to 1 Kings, 2 Kings

A Call to Prayer:

Raise your voice now and pray the Lord for a total deliverance! Call that sin, and that challenge by name and command it out of your life, family through Jesus name.

Ask the Lord to forgive areas of disobedience.

Ask for His healing and restorative power over you.

What would happen if we confront drugs and sex trafficking operating in our neighbourhoods?

What if we stood up against the ills of people in respectable positions?

What if we went on our knees interceding for nations and communities to receive Christ?

Look around communities today, what would happen if you and I got up in our place of prayer and confront the wickedness snatching away our young ones.

These have become dragon-headed monstrous societal and family problems because we refused to slay the giant when it raised was young.

3 Life-Changing Reasons To Slay Your Goliath Now!

God doesn’t like unfinished business – Unfinished spiritual problems. He is unhappy when we disobey.

He is very detailed and mindful. In His all-knowing wisdom and foreknowledge, He gives us instructions.

A promise God gave to Moses in Exodus 17:14 about the Amalekites and how they should be utterly destroyed. He remembered in 1 Samuel 15:17-26 and instructed Saul to execute the judgment.

Saul failed!

When we disobey we not only hurt God, we hurt ourselves too.

Pause and Ponder:

Do you see the importance of dealing with problems as soon as they crop up?

Have you faithfully obeyed God’s instruction in your life?

Do you see how spiritual procrastination, spiritual laziness, spiritual slumber can be lethal?

2. Neglect can cost our children their inheritance, put them constantly fighting and struggling with their enemies.

The battles you leave become giants your children will face. Look at how many generations later, that lack of full obedience resulted in frequent oppressions and captivity as we see in the Book of Judges

Some time ago, my daughter asked me the meaning of Psalm 127:5. Why should children confront the enemies in the gate?

Are there enemies you need to contend with now?

Read Joshua 11:22 and see for yourself how those crop up again in 2 Samuel 21:16-22.

What if David refused to slay Goliath?

Are you ready for war?

Remember we wrestle not against flesh and blood… Ephesians 6:12 Our battle is against the enemy of our soul.

3. Others will rise up in courage because you have become a symbol of hope. Notice how David’s men killed off the rest of the giants. It is huge! Those around you who believe and sincerely appreciate God’s hand upon your life partake of the same victorious grace.

All four giants in 2 Samuel 21:16-22 were slain by David’s men. I almost jumped out of my socks when I read this.

Victory is contagious!

Their leader had defeated Goliath and proved to them it was possible to do it.

People are looking up to you. When you rise in battle you inspire them to do the same.

Success is contagious. Winning battles is contagious. Surrounding yourself with people who want to win, confront their giants will encourage you to confront yours.

Those that walk with the wise become wise Proverbs 13:20

Allow me to write this here… When you walk with Giant slayers you become the next giant slayer.

Today’s Prayer

Oh Lord, forgive me for all my sins including those of partial obedience. Father teach me to walk in the truth of your Word. Help me to rise from spiritual slumber. Grant me victory over giants. Give me the strength to possess my possessions in Jesus name.
