Welcome to Day 17
Key Verses: Colossians 3:1-14
Devotional Insight: A Clothing instead of Anger. Today’s study is a verse study through our key scripture.
As we know it, anger comes with its relatives- rage malice, bitterness, slander, filthy talk or cussing. Is it possible for a believer to take these spoilers away from their lives? The answer is bold YES.
Let’s walk through key phrases in this reading portion, (I used the Berean Study Bible Translation)
Verse 1encourages us to “strive for the things above” many times we are distracted by unimportant things. We allow them impact us heavily. Take for instance your child spills milk then goes on to write on the wall then electronic ware. In the heat of the moment we may forget that the child is in a growing stage. It is the “overwhelm” of cleaning up that tires us out quickly.
“Strive”- fighting hard to place our hearts and minds on the heavenly things. It takes deliberate effort. The enemy would fight for your mind space on all fronts.
—-> In verse 2 “set your mind on thing above”- where should your mind be at all times?
What does verse 3 say? “For you died, and now your life is hid in Christ” are you died in Christ?
What does “died in Christ” mean?
“When Christ, who is your life,” – do you see it? You are died in Christ. The life you live is Christ that lives in you. You are not operating in the frequency of the world but in the Kingdom life.
—->“Put to death”- components of earthly nature, sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed which are idolatry.
All these things replace our worship. They distract our hearts. We should eliminate them. We should have nothing to do with these ungodly characters because God’s wrath will be visited on those who continue in this way.
Rightly, we used to be in the way of the world, now, these things should be past tense and should be in the past.
Our struggle is completely letting go of the past.
Our battle is taking off the adamic sinful nature.
Oh yes, the enemy lurks around to ensure we don’t enjoy living in the newness of life, or as the new creature, we are. That’s why we fight the enemy every day.
Let us put our heart on the Word. That way we win over anger and other temptations.
Study 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
The transformation happens when we are in Christ.
Are you in Christ?
Read: Romans 6:6, Isaiah 43:18
God help us, sister, to hate that which the Lord hates and love that which He loves.
—->“Put aside all such things”- anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
The knowledge of God renews our minds Romans 12:1-2. As we grow to know God deeper, we are shedding off the old man and the nature it bears.
We ought to walk in that newness of life and completely put-off the old self.
We are God’ elect, holy and beloved. What a beautiful way God sees us. Ephesians 1:4-5, Romans 8:29
It is important we know how God sees and values us. Who you are affects your attitude and response to situations. You are God’s elect and your attitude should be in like manner.

What should we do? We clothe ourselves with these 7 Virtues
Compassion – Romans 12:15, Galatians 6:2, 1 Peter 3:8 Luke 6:36
Kindness– Galatians 5:22, 2 Corinthians 6:6, 1 Peter 5:14
Humility– Ephesians 4:2, Philippians 2:3
Gentleness– Galatians 5:13, 26, Galatians 6:1, 1 Thessalonians 2:7
Patience – Colossians1:11, Acts 5:41, 2 Timothy 2:10, 1 Peter 4:16
Forgive– Matthew 6: 14-15 As we received forgiveness from the Lord, we give others out of the same grace.
Love– this one knits all these virtues together. We cannot have the above without love.
God never leaves us stranded. Taking off the old man and replacing them with these beautiful virtues.
Notice all these virtues line up with the Nine fruit of the Holy Spirit? Galatians 5:17-22
Write out the Nine fruit of the Holy Spirit.
