7 Ways The Enemy Whispers Lies

How do you spot a lie? By the Truth in God’s Word.

Statements you have been told becomes lies if they have no place or cannot be validated it by the Word.

The Father of lies is cunny and deceptive. He will try to catch you at unawares. He plays these mind games that get you doubting God. It is in the nature of the devil to lie, deceive and manipulate.

In Matthew 4, Jesus exposed the devil. He called out every lie the devil had told him. He exposed his wickedness in seeking for worship.

A lie is the truth twisted, even if it is just a bit.

Do you see the importance of wholeheartedly searching the scriptures for the truth?

Do you see why a believer needs the Holy Spirit?

Jesus was armed with the truth. He had a vivid understanding of the Word and its application. He didn’t try to use it to suit himself as the devil suggested.

The enemy’s sly nature deceives individuals to manipulate the scriptures to suit themselves. That is what the devil was trying to make Jesus do.

Twist the scriptural application of a verse to appease man’s ego, lust or pride. Or twist it enough to tempt God or to make God seem like a liar.

That is the enemy trying to make God’s children believe everything contrary to the truth. Notice how the devil dealt with Eve in Genesis 4.

In everyday life, we are confronted with such situations.

Everyday, we make the choice either to believe the excuses the enemy creates to pervert the truth of the Gospel or we stand by the truth of God’s Word.

Everyday, we are tested, tried and tempted.

We either fall through accepting lies or we stand by the Truth.

Jesus said man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.Matthew 4:4

Not some part or the Gospel but every word of God gives us life.

The three fold mission of the enemy to steal, to kill and to destroy John 10:10. That’s everything he seeks. The only way to achieve this is by getting the people to believe in lies.

How has the enemy being whispering lies to you?

What is the enemy speaking about your marriage your finance, your health, your faith, your past, your future, your kids, your life?

How the Enemy Whispers lies

Through Deceit. When we reject God’s Word, we effortlessly embrace the lie of the enemy. Romans 1:21

Do you see the condition of the world today?

Do you notice how fallen the condition of the church is today?

The criticisms, accusations and counter accusations all these and more are deceitful works of the enemy causing distractions.

Think for a moment, why are people deceived into lies?

Through “small sins”.  Ever heard of small sins?  The it-doesn’t-matter-kind-of-things we do.

God’s grace should never be an excuse for a believer to engage in these small sins despite the warning of the Holy Spirit.

Over at GMG on Facebook, as we studied through Psalm 19, the ladies discussed and I further probed about “presumptuous sins and secret sins”.

News Flash…. there are no small sins! including, bitterness anger, envy, lies we tell all, those tiny things we overlook!

Rejection of the Truth. In this week’s study plan, we study how Cain’s rejection of God’s warning pushed him to sin. Despite being confronted, Cain allowed uncontrolled emotions end in a tragic experience.

You reject the truth when you choose to expand and believe the lies of the enemy.

You reject the truth when you reject God’s Word.

In today’s world, many reject the truth on basis of human reasoning, science, education etc. The sad reality is, most believers unknowingly reject the truth.

Think about this…When Noah began to build the ark, humanly speaking it sounded foolish. Right? But He held the Word of God over the ideologies of man.

Through Carelessness. Comfort can be a distraction. Yup! When your spiritual life seem to be stagnant be rest assured the enemy is lurking in the corner.

We love comfort. But comfort can be dangerous.

Recall, Eve didn’t go looking for the serpent. He came to her. She had no sin prior to the devil’s visit. She likely went about the garden and carrying out her duties.

It is carelessness for a believer to mistake physical comfort for spiritual rest.

Why? Because the enemy never rests 1 Peter 5:8 as long as we are still in this world, we remain at war with the enemy.

Arise o sleeping giant!

When men slept the enemy came to sow tares! (Matthew 13:25)

We never know what prompted the prodigal son to make his rash decision to leave his father’s estate (Luke 15). He realized his error when he lost everything.

It is a deception to think that you are enough. God is enough!

It is erroneous to think you can make it without God.

Do you see the deceit of wealth and comfort?

What shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul? Mark 8:36

It is a lie to think you are okay without your heavenly Father.

It is a lie of the enemy to think you have everything a woman can wish for.

A life without Christ has no meaning!

Whoever has Christ in her soul has everything! Because Jesus satisfies her soul. Now this is the truth.

Through Lusts. Well the enemy knew where to get Eve. He looked for her utmost desire and pierces her with it.

Like Eve, we are tempted everyday with what our hearts long for. Your desires can become a snare when you are obsessed with it.

Obsession drives people to seek those things outside Biblical principles.

Jesus was tempted as we are. The serpent didn’t let Him rest either. Wealth, fame and material and physical comfort are the very same tools the enemy uses to wage war of unsuspecting believers.

The truth is, God knows what we need and He is faithful to provide them. But our needs and wants should never come before seeking God. Matthew 6:28-33

Through afflictions. A very real part of life the enemy uses to gain entry. Job knew God and believed Him, afflictions notwithstanding. The enemy creeps in during our weak moments He tries to get us to stop believing God.

But we know by the Word that afflictions don’t mean God has abandoned you.

Afflictions don’t mean God does not love you.

Afflictions are a real part of a Christian’s life.

Through what we hear and see. The Israelites were overpowered by the size of their enemies. They saw themselves as grasshoppers. Their encounter is a reminder of how we allow experiences  overpower of faith.

The prophet Elisha’s servant saw the armies of Syria surrounding them and forgot how powerful their God was. He panicked in fear.

We are not moved by what we see.

What about what we hear? Romans 10:17

Faith comes by hearing. And not just hearing any thing but God’s Word.

God’s Word produces Faith

The enemy’s Word produces Lies, Fear and Unbelief.

Thank you. This article encouraged me!

  • It’s so easy to fall prey to the lies of the enemy. We have to recognize them for what they are and call him out on it. God exposed Satan for who he was. We have to pray and, look Satan in his face, and do the same.

    • Yes, Brittany

Thank God for the power in the Word of Truth!

I appreciate you for visiting 😊

  • Dear Ifeoma,
Thank you for sharing these great Scriptures! In today’s verses, I especially was grateful for John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Those lies of the enemy sometimes feel too strong for me to battle on my own. Of course I am! But I am not alone, because Jesus’ life is in me! And He is bringing the truth and full life right here. I can trust Him even in this. Blessings to you dear sister!

    • Hello Betty, I’m happy you are joining in this study.

Yes sister we have a friend in Jesus we can trust! And all the time too.

      Hugs dear friend

  • The lies of the enemy is very real. We need to know the word of God to know the difference.
