Bible Reading: Genesis 19: 1-20, Genesis 18: 23-33
After a visit to Abraham and confirming the promise of Isaac. The angels’ visitation was bitter and Sweet at the same time. Bitter for the people of Sodom and Gomorrah
The Lord would not do anything without first revealing to His prophets. Amos 3:8
He told Abraham his intention towards Sodom and Gomorrah.
Abraham remembered His nephew Lot.
He began to plead mercy on his case Genesis 18: 23-33.
If only there 10 men found! But there was none except Noah.
The great city was sin-soaked, sodden and gutted in wickedness.
It’s cup was filled up with abominations.
But Mercy spoke on Lot’s behalf.
Though the men of the city tried to withstand the mercy of God that visited Lot, Mercy still prevailed.
Genesis 19: 17 escape to the mountain he was told.
Simply means, don’t stay around the plains…everywhere here is stinking with pollution. Escape to the mountain.
The whole world lies in absolute wickedness.
There is no place of safety here save the Mountain.
Why the mountain?
That Mountain is Mount Zion, the City of the Lord.
That’s our only way out of this quagmire.
His dwelling place. (Jeremiah 31:6)
His Holy Land. (Isaiah 2:3)
That’s where the escape is.
That’s where our deliverance will come. (Obadiah 1:17)
That’s where there is Holiness and purity.
The Bible compares our generation with Sodom and Gomorrah. Men operating in deceit and deceiving yet many others. People leaving their first love. Abandoning the Cross. Returning to the very things that once were renounced as dogs to feces.
Is our day not worse than the days of Sodom and Gomorrah?
Is wickedness not glorified and approved today?
A Day of destruction is reserved for this generation. The world is preparing for it. The signs are everywhere. We can see it. We know it’s true. Just as it is written in Joel 2:1 and 32
Who then shall be saved?
And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved? And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. Luke 18:26-27
But A remnant shall escape. God always made sure His people had a way of escape. He did so for Ezra, (Ezra 9:8 and 15). He did it for Noah through the ark.
By God we will escape.
By the Mercy of God.
Mercy still speaks!
As it is written in Hebrews, How can we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?
How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; Hebrews 2:3
The Salvation of the Soul is great.
Jesus did it for us.
Jesus paid the ultimate price.
He paid it in full.
Jesus paid it with Blood.
He bore that shame for you and me.
I cannot neglect that. You shouldn’t too my dear friend.
Lord Jesus, come into my heart. The world is lost and destined for destruction but save my soul, oh Lord. Let your presence surround me and fill me with your presence. Open the eyes of my heart to see the Great Salvation you have brought me to.
As I set my eyes steady on the Cross, remind me daily of eternal its purpose in Jesus name. Lord I pray for my family and friends who are yet to know you. Lord let your mercy speak on their behalf. Draw them to you, Father and make them come to the knowledge of Truth in Jesus name. Amen.
