LET US PRAY Day 3 by Stephane

LET US PRAY

Devotions: Prayer for Marital Peace
          Throughout
history, when two nations are at war it is not uncommon to see a third party
step in to help them seek peace. This third party would bring the arguments,
crimes, and other offenses of each nation to the table and would help them work
through each one until a peaceable agreement could be met.
This gives us a good picture of what it means
to intercede for marital peace, whether in our own marriages or for someone
else’s. If a marriage is not at peace, then it is at war, and war brings
destruction, grief, sorrow and pain, leaving broken hearts in its wake.

Prayer
Focus #1
Peace with man only comes when we first have peace
with God.
Therefore, having
been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Romans 5:1 (ESV)
As you come before the Lord pray that
if there is any sin, any distance in your heart or in the hearts of those whom
you are interceding for that God would draw them through His Holy Spirit and
bring them into His peace.
Pray
that all burdens, sins, trespasses and hurts be laid down so that His peace can
reign
.
Prayer
Focus # 2
Peace is unity. To have peace we must be one.
“Therefore a man shall
leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall
become one flesh.”
Genesis 2:24
Pray
that our marriages would be unified as one. Peace is never achieved until the
two who are at war come to an agreement, and an understanding, until the two
can dwell together as one again.
Pray for unity, for oneness, for agreements and understanding to
be reached.
Prayer
Focus # 3

Forgive-
even as Christ forgave you.
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted,
forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

Ephesians 4:32
Peace is never fully achieved until we
forgive. We have peace with God because He forgave us our sins, we can have
peace in our marriages when we learn to forgive our spouses.
Pray that God would show us His forgiveness when we are being
unforgiving
.
Prayer
Focus # 4

Pick
your battles, and watch your tongue
.
Do not repay
evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this
you were called that you may obtain a blessing.”

1
Peter 3:9
Wars have started because someone said
something and the other person retaliated. Pray that we would become men and
women who do not react, but instead respond. Pray that we learn to bless, and not curse,
that we learn to love and not revile

“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a
harsh word stirs up anger”.         Proverbs
15:1
Pray the Lord to teach us to speak
softly with one another so that we may dwell with one another peacefully.
Prayer
Focus #5

Be
humble. We gave up the right to be right when we gave our lives to Jesus
Christ.

Only He has the right to
be right. Lay down yourself for the sake of the other.

“He said to them
all, ‘If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his
cross daily, and follow Me.’”

Luke
9:23
Peace is never
reached without sacrifice. Jesus sacrificed Himself so that we could have
peace. We too must be willing to sacrifice for the benefit of our spouses. Pray
the Lord to give us hearts that are humble, that seek the best for the other,
not for ourselves.
Father God,
hear our prayers for marital peace. If there is a man or a woman who is reading
this who needs peace in their marriage, then I pray that You would pour out
Your Holy Spirit and give them comfort, and hope right now.

Give them Your
peace that surpasses understanding. I pray for that man and/or woman right now,
Father- encompass them with Your peace; let them draw strength from Your Word
to keep praying, because at the end of every battle, there will be peace. I ask all this, in the name of my Lord
Jesus, Amen and Amen.
