The Dorcas Ministry

Unfortunately, there are
many women in ministry who are more concerned with their beauty, appearance,
cars and other vain things than they are for the people committed to them.

The lust
of material goods, vain glory, self aggrandizement, filthy competition, has
taken over women in the household of faith.

A woman in ministry is a woman
after God’s heart should be known for her good works and character not
worldliness as it is today.

This is a
rather unpopular teaching. We look at the life of one woman that made the
church mourn. I want you to meet Dorcas of Joppa.
Act 9:36-42  Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by
interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and
alms deeds which she did.  And it came to
pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed,
they laid her in an upper
chamber.  And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh
to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him
two men, desiring him that he
would not delay to come to them.  Then
Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the
upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats
and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.  But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled
down, and prayed; and turning him
to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw
Peter, she sat up.   And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when
he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.   And it
was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.
She created so much impart while she was alive. She stretched
forth her hands to those in need. She didn’t stop there. She cared for the
widows and made clothes for them. The church groaned. It was too much for them
to bear her loss. They sent for Apostle Peter. God had no choice than to honor
the voice of his people and bring her back to life.

Can you see what God did through one little woman living in
Joppa?  The most amazing part of this
story is, when she was raised up many believed in the Lord. You can call
yourself a Christian and have no evidence. The widows gathered round each
having garments and clothing she had made for them. They held the evidence of
her testimony as a Christian in their hands. Do you have what will stand or
speak for you as an evidence of your Christian life?

Are you thinking what I am thinking? If God can use one
woman who dedicated her gifts, effort, time to meet the needs of those needy
and poor in church, can he use us? Are we available to be instruments of praise
in God’s hands?
There is something God has placed in you that can benefit
and impart positively to those around you. There are many areas women can
step-in to bless the church. Our gentle nature allows our compassionate heart
identify those who really are in need.
Proverbs
3:27
Withhold
not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to
do it.
I want to be a compassionate woman to be used by God just
like Dorcas. When you meet the needs of others with love God also satisfies
your desires.

God bless, you too can share your experience.
